Last year, they didn't have a lot of resources, what with all the injuries and all, so it's understandable that it would be a major flop. This year they have no excuse. The WWE probably has the best roster of talent in the entire wrestling industry, but after taking a look at this card, it seems a lot of that talent is going to be wasted this year, and it's really unfortunate.
The build has been lackluster, and I'm hoping that they can at least hammer home some huge angles tomorrow on Raw, to get people into this show.
Here are my thoughts and predictions from start to finish...
[Tinashe (who?) performs America the Beautiful]
[WrestleMania hosts, The New Day, come out to start the show, ice cream truck and all)
Big E.: Awwwwwwww, WrestleMania!!!! Don't you dare be sour! Clap for your future three-time champs, and greatest WrestleMania hosts of all time, and feel the power!!!
Kofi: And we are here to bring you excitement like you've never experienced before. Moments that will echo through the ages, and memories that will last a lifetime. Memories that you can tell your grandkids about!
Xavier: And of course, this hot Orlando crowd needs some cool ice cream flavour!
Big E.: So with that in mind, we are here to present Orlando with some New Day Pops!
All: New Day Pops... New Day Pops... New Day Pops...
Big E.: You can't lick The New Day, but you can lick our cream!
Kofi: E, E, man, PG. Keep it clean, bro.
Xavier: But that's the great thing about WrestleMania. Anything and everything can and probably will happen. Who knows what kind of WrestleMania moment will happen next.
[Suddenly, The Rock's music hits, and The Great One makes his way to the ring]
Rock: Finally, The Rock has come back to WrestleMania! And The Rock remembers his very first WrestleMania: Chicago, Illinois against The Sultan. It was the first time that The Rock ever checked some jabroni into The Smackdown Hotel. I actually bodyslammed The Iron Shiek that night. But it didn't end there. I went on to headline WrestleMania after WrestleMania after WrestleMania against the likes of Triple H (boos), Mick Foley (cheers), Stone Cold Steve Austin (huge pop), Hulk Hogan (mixed) and John Cena (mixed). I've had my own share of classic WrestleMania moments. And from that... we go to ice cream? What's the name of those things again?
Xavier: New D...
Rock: It doesn't matter what their name is!!! I tell you what, The Rock is about to create a new WrestleMania moment by turnin' them sumbitches sideways, and stickin' them up all three of your monkey asses! But you are right. This is WrestleMania, and it's where legends are born, and memories are created. We're all in store for some classic WrestleMania moments, so how 'bout we all just sit back, relax, eat our ice cream, and enjoy! 'Cause it's a New Day, a new chapter, a new... (looks at Xavier) page! If Ya Smellllllll what The Rock is cookin'!
[The opening video airs, with highlights of previous WrestleManias]
Bray Wyatt vs. Randy Orton for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
* I think this is the smart thing to do, as I don't think anyone is really clamoring for another Orton title run, and they really should keep Wyatt looking strong.
[A video airs, showing highlights of WrestleMania weekend, including the NXT: Takeover special]
Bayley vs. Charlotte vs. Sasha Banks vs. Nia Jax in a fatal four-way match for the Raw Women's Championship
[Brock Lesnar and Goldberg are shown arriving to the building at different intervals, as we then go to the pay per view panel, who provide their thoughts on the night thus far]
Neville vs. Austin Aries for the Cruiserweight Championship
[The New Day are shown in the crowd, giving away ice cream bars. We then get to see some celebrities in attendance]
[Charlie is backstage with Austin Aries, who has just come through the curtain]
Charlie: I'm here with the brand new Cruiserweight Champion, Austin Aries. Austin, you have to feel ecstatic about that. I mean it's WrestleMania.
[Before Aries can get a word out, he's interrupted by Kevin Owens, who's with Samoa Joe]
Owens: Ecstatic? You know it's just like you, Dasha, to put words in other people's mouths.
Charlie: It's Charlie, actu...
Owens: I think I know what your name is. And secondly, you got it all wrong as usual. It's KO Mania! Now hit the bricks, toots. And you know what, take the champ here with ya. Enjoy your silver medal there, Austin!
Aries: For important guys like you? I can wait another day.
Owens: Yeah whatever. Beat it. Chris Jericho! You couldn't leave well enough alone, could ya, Chris? Nope. You had to come back, and cost me my Universal Championship. Everybody who's anybody knows that I had Goldberg's number, and that it should be me defending The Universal Championship tonight instead of Grandpa Bill. But because of you, Chris, that didn't happen. So now I have to deal with this nagging thorn in my side named Chris Jericho. See I don't need friends, Chris. I need people like Samoa Joe. But I don't need him to beat you. I'm gonna go out there on my own like I always do, I'm gonna win this match on my own like I always do, and I'm gonna beat the hell out of another washed-up has-been who needs to realize that it's over for him. I'm gonna send another dinosaur back to the museum. And after I get done with you Chris, I'm gonna take back what I never lost in the first place, and that's my Universal Title. Chris, I promise you, this thrill ride is gonna be your last.
[Owens leaves, and then Samoa Joe looks into the camera, smirks, and then walks off as well]
Chris Jericho vs. Kevin Owens for the United States Championship
* During Jericho's victory celebration, Owens attacks him from behind, throws him to the floor, and hits Jericho with a powerbomb against the ring apron.
The Undertaker vs. Roman Reigns
* I think if they're going to have Taker lose, then they need to turn Reigns heel.
[More New Day stuff (I'm not going to run through all of their segments)]
[The Hall of Fame inductees are then introduced to the live crowd]
AJ Styles vs. Shane McMahon
[Highlights from the kick-off show are shown, including the Andre battle royal (won by Samoa Joe), the Smackdown Women's Title match (won by Asuka who jumps to Smackdown, after losing her NXT Title to Ember Moon) and the Raw Tag Title match (retained by Anderson and Gallows), all of which are probably going to be bumped from the main card]
John Cena and Nikki Bella vs. The Miz and Maryse in a mixed tag team match
* After the match, Nikki takes the microphone and surprises everyone by announcing her retirement from in-ring competition. Cena then takes the microphone and says he has a surprise as well. He gets down on one knee, and finally pops the question. Nikki says "Yes!" and they celebrate. Cena then gets on the turnbuckle and plays to the crowd, while Nikki is showing off her ring in the ring. All of a sudden, Miz sneaks back in and hits the Skull Crushing Finale on Nikki, before Cena chases him off. As Cena checks on Nikki, his happy expression turns into a more serious one.
Triple H vs. Seth Rollins
* After the match, Rollins and Zayn celebrate, as Joe carries Triple H to the back.
[More New Day stuff]
[The new attendance record is announced]
Dean Ambrose vs. Baron Corbin for the Intercontinental Championship
Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar for the WWE Universal Championship
* After the match, to everyone's surprise, Lesnar offers his hand to Goldberg, and helps him to his feet. Lesnar then genuinely shakes Goldberg's hand, and hugs him to end the show, as the fireworks go off.
So there you have it.
Here are my match predictions for the next two brand exclusive pay per views...
Extreme Rules (I believe this is Smackdown):
Bray Wyatt vs. Luke Harper in a Ring of Fire match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
AJ Styles (Face) vs. Randy Orton and Shane McMahon (Heels) in a handicap match - If AJ wins, he is number one contender for the WWE Championship, but if Shane and Orton win, AJ must leave Smackdown! Live. Orton and Shane also have to tag in and out for this match.
John Cena vs. The Miz in an Extreme Rules match
Baron Corbin vs. Dean Ambrose in a Falls Count Anywhere match for the Intercontinental Championship
The Usos vs. American Alpha in a Texas Tornado match for the Smackdown! Live Tag Team Championships
Asuka vs. Becky Lynch for the Smackdown! Live Women's Championship
Brock Lesnar (Face) vs. Roman Reigns (Heel) for the Universal Championship - This is the rumoured main event for next year's WrestleMania, and I think Heyman will align himself with Reigns and double-cross Lesnar, as he didn't approve of the handshake with Goldberg,
Kevin Owens, Samoa Joe and Pete Dunne vs. Seth Rollins, Sami Zayn and Chris Jericho in a six-man tag team match - Owens, Joe and Dunne are Triple H's proteges, and this is a new faction.
Finn Balor vs. Braun Strowman
Bayley vs. Nia Jax for the Raw Women's Championship
Charlotte vs. Sasha Banks in a Last Woman Standing match - This will end this feud once and for all.
Austin Aries vs. Neville vs. TJ Perkins in a triple threat match for the Cruiserweight Championship - I've always been a fan of Perkins, and I think they've kind of been teasing a heel turn, so I can see him kind of weaseling his way into this match.
Enzo Amore and Big Cass vs. The Revival for the Raw Tag Team Championships - Enzo and Cass finally win the titles on the Raw after WrestleMania, which is the same night that The Revival debuts on the main roster.
